Terms of Service
By accessing and using Roll & Roam ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
Roll & Roam is an AI-driven location-based adventure game that uses D&D mechanics to generate real-world quests. By using this Service, you acknowledge the inherent risks of real-world exploration and agree to follow all safety guidelines.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Roll & Roam. By creating an account and using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are 18 years of age or older.
The Service is not intended for minors under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 years of age. If you are under 18, you may not access or use this Service.
If we discover that someone under 18 has created an account, we will terminate that account immediately and delete all associated data.
You agree to:
- Provide accurate and truthful information when creating an account
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
- Use the Service only for lawful purposes
- Respect all local laws, regulations, and property rights during adventures
- Follow all safety guidelines and recommendations provided by the Service
- Not interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
- Not use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others
IMPORTANT: Real-world adventures involve inherent risks. You are solely responsible for your safety.
The Service provides AI-generated routes and challenges, but:
- You must exercise independent judgment about safety and appropriateness of any route or challenge
- Always prioritize your personal safety over game objectives
- Never trespass on private property or enter restricted areas
- Obey all traffic laws and signals when traveling
- Be aware of your surroundings and environmental conditions
- Use the "Abort Adventure" feature if you feel unsafe at any time
Roll & Roam and its creators are not responsible for any injuries, damages, or losses incurred during use of the Service. You use the Service at your own risk.
User-Initiated Account Deletion
You may permanently delete your account at any time through your Profile page. When you initiate account deletion:
- You will be asked to confirm the deletion to prevent accidental loss
- All personal data, characters, adventures, and progress will be permanently deleted
- The deletion is immediate and irreversible
- You will not be able to recover your account or data after deletion
- Any active party memberships will be automatically terminated
- Uploaded content (avatars, images) will be permanently removed
Data Retention After Deletion
Upon account deletion, we permanently remove all personal data from our active systems. However:
- Backup copies may persist in our systems for up to 30 days before being purged
- Some anonymized analytics data may be retained for legal or security purposes
- Legal obligations may require us to retain certain data (e.g., transaction records)
- Data already shared with third-party services (Google Maps, AI providers) follows their retention policies
Effect on Services
Once your account is deleted:
- You will be immediately logged out
- You will need to create a new account to use the Service again
- Previous characters, progress, and achievements cannot be restored
- Any premium features or unlocked skills are permanently lost
By deleting your account, you acknowledge that this action is permanent and that Roll & Roam cannot recover your data.
All content, features, and functionality of the Service (including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, images, audio, video, software, and the AI-generated content) are owned by Roll & Roam or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, or distribute Service content without permission
- Use our trademarks, logos, or branding without written consent
- Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the Service's source code
- Create derivative works based on the Service
When you create content in the Service (characters, adventure logs, messages), you retain ownership of that content. However, you grant Roll & Roam a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and modify that content as necessary to provide the Service.
You are responsible for the content you create and agree not to post content that is illegal, offensive, or violates the rights of others.
AI-Generated Content. Certain assets — adventure routes and narration, character cards, companion cards, and milestone badges — are generated on your behalf by third-party AI models (including Google Gemini). You may download and share these assets for personal, non-commercial use. Because AI-generated output may be non-exclusive and similar output can be produced for others, we grant you a non-exclusive licence to your generated assets and retain the right to use them to operate and improve the Service.
Virtual Items. Companions, badges, skills, streaks, cosmetics, and other in-game items are licensed to you for use within Roll & Roam only. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for cash, and may be modified or removed as part of ongoing development.
Community Feed & Shared Photos. The Service lets you capture and upload photos and captions and share them to a private (only you), party-only, or public feed. You choose the visibility of each post. When you select "Public", your post — including the photo, caption, your display name, and a coarse location name — becomes visible to other users of the Service. By posting, you confirm that you own or have the rights to the content, that it does not infringe anyone's rights or privacy, and that you have the consent of any identifiable people shown. You must not upload images of other people without their permission, or content that is unlawful, harmful, hateful, or offensive.
You grant Roll & Roam a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, and distribute your shared content solely to operate the feed at the visibility you selected. You may delete your posts at any time; deletion removes them from the feed, although cached copies may persist briefly. We may remove content that violates these Terms.
8. Location, Proximity Alerts & Device Access
Our adventure features require access to your device's location services. By using these features, you:
- Grant us permission to access your current location
- Understand that location data is used to generate nearby adventure routes and to detect when you approach challenge waypoints
- Acknowledge that routes may lead through public spaces and outdoor areas
- Accept responsibility for your own safety during real-world adventures
Proximity Challenge Alerts. During an active adventure, the app monitors your location in the foreground to alert you — via on-screen pop-up, sound, and device vibration — when you approach a challenge point. This runs only while an adventure is active and the app is open.
Screen Wake Lock. To keep proximity detection running while you travel, the app may keep your screen awake during an active adventure. This can increase battery usage; ending or aborting the adventure releases it.
Push Notifications. If you opt in, we may send push notifications to re-engage you with adventures and remind you of nearby challenges. You can disable notifications at any time from your Profile or device settings. On some platforms (e.g. iOS), push notifications require installing Roll & Roam to your Home Screen.
Mandatory Safety Acknowledgment. Before each adventure begins, you must confirm that you will follow the safety guidelines — including staying aware of your surroundings and never playing while driving or operating a vehicle. You cannot start an adventure without accepting these terms.
We do not store your precise location history beyond what is needed for waypoint check-ins and adventure progress. Location data is processed in real-time for route generation and proximity detection.
Free Roam Ambient Mode. Free Roam is an always-available exploration mode — and the default screen for signed-in players — that layers ambient content onto a live map of your surroundings. While Free Roam is open, the app uses your foreground location to place nearby collectibles (loot, companion eggs, and occasional pop-up adventures) at real, public points of interest around you. The same safety constraints as planned quests apply: content is anchored to public, populated, publicly-accessible places, and you remain solely responsible for your own safety and for obeying local laws and property rights.
Shared Party Spawns. If you are in an active party, Free Roam content may be generated relative to your party's collective position and shared with your party members, who can claim it. Outside of a party, your Free Roam content is private to you.
Anonymous Proximity Hints. When a rare item is claimed, other nearby players who are not in your party may receive a generic, anonymous alert (for example, "A nearby adventurer found something rare"). These hints never reveal your identity, your location, or what was found.
Companion Eggs & Rewards. Companion eggs collected in Free Roam hatch based on the real-world distance you walk while the mode is active. Rewards, companions, and other items obtained in Free Roam are virtual items governed by Section 7 and have no monetary value.
AI NPC Encounters. Free Roam is populated by AI-driven non-player characters (NPCs). When you interact with an NPC, its dialogue is generated in real time by a third-party AI model (Google Gemini) and is personalised using your active character's race and class. NPC storylines, dice-resolved outcomes, and any rewards are part of the game fiction and produce only virtual items governed by Section 7. Rare NPC side-quests — including the payment negotiation and its Persuasion-based dice outcome — are a Pathfinder membership feature; their negotiated payouts are in-game XP and have no monetary value. As with all AI-generated content, NPC dialogue may be inaccurate or unexpected, and you remain solely responsible for your own safety and for any real-world travel a quest objective may involve.
9. Multiplayer & Party Features
Roll & Roam offers multiplayer party features that allow you to adventure with friends. By using party features, you agree to:
- Party Invitations: You may create parties and invite others via unique invite codes. You are responsible for managing who joins your party.
- Location Sharing: During active shared adventures, your real-time location is visible to all party members. Location sharing ends when the adventure is completed or aborted.
- Party Chat: Messages sent in party chat are visible to all current party members. We moderate reported content but are not responsible for member communications.
- Party Administration: Party creators have administrative rights including removing members and deleting the party. Admin decisions are final.
- Privacy Controls: No location data is shared with non-party members. You retain full control over which parties you join.
We do not share your location with random players or the public. Party features are strictly opt-in and invite-only.
10. Safety & Liability
Roll & Roam generates routes to real-world locations. While we implement safety constraints (public areas, daylight hours, transit access), you are responsible for:
- Assessing the safety of generated routes before embarking
- Using common sense and situational awareness during adventures
- Following local laws, regulations, and private property boundaries
- Maintaining personal safety equipment and emergency contacts
- Choosing a travel mode appropriate to your ability, equipment, and local conditions
Travel Modes. Roll & Roam supports multiple travel modes (including walking, cycling, driving, public transport, scooter, kayak, horseback, and wheelchair-accessible routing). Some modes carry additional risks and requirements — water-based (kayak) and animal-assisted (horseback) travel in particular require appropriate skill, equipment, and safety gear. Wheelchair-accessible routing is generated on a best-effort basis; we cannot guarantee that every waypoint or path is fully step-free or accessible, so always verify accessibility and current conditions before setting out.
We are not liable for injuries, accidents, or incidents that occur during real-world adventures. The Service generates suggestions only; you make all final decisions about where to go and what to do.
11. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for illegal activities or to promote harmful behavior
- Attempt to access other users' accounts or private data
- Harass, stalk, or threaten other users through party features
- Share misleading or fraudulent content
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or hack the Service
12. Platform-Initiated Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our discretion if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct harmful to other users or the Service. In such cases:
- We may provide notice before termination, but are not required to do so for serious violations
- Terminated accounts may not be reinstated
- You remain responsible for any violations that occurred before termination
13. Memberships, Subscriptions & Payments
Roll & Roam offers a free tier and an optional paid membership. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, Stripe. By purchasing a membership or one-time item, you agree to the terms in this section.
Adventurer (Free) — €0
- Up to 2 characters
- One-time character Card generation per character
- Limited skill tree
- 1 party with a maximum of 3 members
- Single-day adventures only
- A 1-day cooldown on adventure setup after 3 consecutive attempts
Pathfinder (Paid) — €4.99 / month
- Includes a 3-day free trial for new subscribers
- Up to 5 characters
- 3 Card regenerations per character
- Full skill tree
- Unlimited parties with up to 12 members
- Full adventure setup with no cooldown after consecutive attempts
Regional Pricing. Prices are shown in EUR, ZAR, or USD based on your detected region (Europe, South Africa, and everywhere else, respectively). These are region-specific prices set independently — they are not live currency conversions of one another. The currency and amount shown at checkout is the amount you will be charged.
Free Trial. The Pathfinder trial lasts 3 days. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription automatically converts to a paid monthly membership and your payment method is charged the applicable price.
Auto-Renewal. Pathfinder is a recurring monthly subscription that automatically renews at the end of each billing period until cancelled. By subscribing, you authorise Stripe to charge your payment method on each renewal.
Cancellation. You may cancel at any time from your Profile via the billing portal. Cancellation stops future renewals; you retain Pathfinder access until the end of the current paid period, after which your account reverts to the Adventurer (Free) tier and its limits.
One-Time Purchases. We offer non-recurring purchases, including Character Card regenerations (for free-tier users, or Pathfinder users who have used their included regenerations) and special Skill unlocks. One-time purchases are granted to your account upon successful payment and are consumed or applied as described at the point of sale.
Refunds. Except where required by applicable law, all payments — including subscription fees and one-time purchases — are non-refundable, and partial billing periods are not refunded. Downgrading or cancelling does not entitle you to a refund for the remaining period.
Failed Payments. If a renewal payment fails, we may retry the charge and/or suspend or downgrade your Pathfinder benefits until payment succeeds.
Price Changes. We may change subscription prices or the contents of any tier. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes, which take effect on your next billing period. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance.
Payment Data. We do not collect or store your full card details. Card data is entered directly with Stripe and handled under Stripe's terms and privacy policy. See our Privacy Policy for what billing data we retain.
14. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the Service. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.
IN NO EVENT SHALL ROLL & ROAM BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
